US elections: after the debate

The fallout of the debate is pretty obvious: the democrats have no viable candidate, hence  on November 5 the choice will be between Trump (the saviour) and Trump (the monster). A participant in a debate in the Independent opined:
 
Neither candidate is a choice for America. Both the Republicans and Democrats have failed America by not providing solid, common sense candidates for us to choose.One is senile and has sundowners syndrome, strong speaker in the early hours of the day, weak and fumbling at night. The other is a pathological liar with no moral compass to speak of. Both are garbage at this point.Americans voting in these unstable Democrats and Republicans have brought this on themselves. Instead of Republicans and Democrats that have common sense and goals, we have a Senate and Congress that has extremes in so many directions they have no direction.If Biden is the best the Democrats can come up with, and if Trump is the best the Republicans can come up with, then both republicans and democrats need to fired or recalled in large numbers.There is no choice for America right now and both sides need to realize this and fix it now. Neither Biden or Trump should be running for president.
 
 
Well, Trump is running. Biden is close to being dropped by his own party. Even if he continues running, voters will likely not choose between him and Trump but between Trump (The Saviour) and Trump (The Monster).

However, there is still the possibility that Biden might save himself by appointing a convincing deputy who could take over any time during the four years ahead. Gavin Newsom of California is waiting in the wings. Even as a VP he might successfully challenge Trump. A few other names are being  floated: current VP Kamala Harris is not among them. Michelle Obama is the secret queen of wishful Democrat thinking. At present, however, voters are faced with a simple choice: its The Saviour vs. The Monster.

 Apparently, the debate has increased the share of voters who consider Trump a monster (and hence will vote for Biden, dead or alive,  or any surrogate):

Although many Democratic voters say they would prefer President Joe Biden step aside as the party’s nominee after Thursday’s weak debate performance, a new Morning Consult poll reveals that Biden’s support actually improved after the debate.  When the survey asked respondents to choose between Biden and former President Trump, 45% chose the President and 44% chose Trump.

“On every metric that matters, data shows it did nothing to change the American people’s perception, our supporters are more fired up than ever, and Donald Trump only reminded voters of why they fired him four years ago and failed to expand his appeal beyond his MAGA base,” O’Malley Dillon wrote.
