The Trump administration and Ukraine have signed an agreement to jointly exploit Ukraine's mineral resources. This endeavour invites American companies to set up shop in Ukraine with a strategy customary for operating in poor developing countries: making a small initial investment and extracting as much future profit as possible, for transfer to the US, not for local reinvestment. But who is going to sink a single investment dollar in a war torn country risking to be totally destroyed and swallowed by a neighbor who couldn't care less about foreign investments (and who himself would like to sell the same minerals to the US)?

The US and Ukraine have signed a deal that will give Washington access to some of the war-torn country's natural resources. Months in the making, it sets up an investment fund that Ukraine hopes will cement US assistance as the country struggles to repel Russia three years after the invasion. Trump has previously demanded that Ukraine pay back the $350bn (£264bn) of aid that he claims has been provided by the US during the war - a condition that Zelensky rejected. But Washington appears to have made a concession. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said the agreement did not dictate that his country pay back any supposed "debt". The language used by the US in announcing the deal is notably harsher towards Russia than is usually the case from the Trump administration. The agreement refers to "Russia's full-scale invasion.” One intriguing point highlighted by Ukraine's government is that for the first decade of the reconstruction investment fund, profits will be "fully reinvested in Ukraine's economy", either in new projects or reconstruction. This could be potentially significant if there is no financial benefit for the US for 10 years - BBC
CNN Chief International Security Correspondent Nick Payton-Walsh described the deal as largely symbolic. “Trump needed to feel America was getting something back from Kyiv. Ukraine needed to show its relationship with this White House was functional and improving. Ukraine’s allies needed this done and dusted to remove a distraction from the complex talk of military aid and real peace that must now become their focus. The deal’s text also contains two phrases that will be distinctly pleasing to Kyiv. First, it refers to the “large-scale destruction caused by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine” – an unambiguous statement of blame from a White House that has often preferred to pull its punches. And then it explains how Ukraine might buy arms from the US – vital given the escalating Russian onslaught across the front lines.”

In reality, the figure is closer to $185 billion. At today’s White House press briefing, Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller (see video) undermined the spirit of the deal—and offended many Ukrainians—by calling it “payback” for “the hundreds of billions our taxpayers have spent subsidizing the war in Ukraine.” As I told several broadcasters, watching this unfold as a Canadian raises deep skepticism about the Trump administration’s intentions. This is an administration that has spent much of its first 100 days dismantling long-standing U.S.-Canada agreements. And having spent much of the past three years in Ukraine, I can say with confidence: few Ukrainians want foreign powers interfering with their natural resources. There is widespread fear that a poorly negotiated deal could reduce Ukraine to an economic colony of the United States. Critics of the Zelensky administration argue that rare earth minerals should never have been on the table in discussions with Washington. But once the Trump administration caught wind of an economic opportunity, it pounced. A final note on timing: China’s recent ban on rare earth mineral exports likely sent a chill through the Trump administration. These elements are essential to nearly 2,000 components used by the U.S. military (heavy rare earths are used in many military fields such as missiles, radar, and permanent magnets, BBC reported. Trump assigned .....Pam Bondi, to issue an official Justice Department memo aimed at threatening journalists with legal consequences - including arrest and potentially much worse - for merely doing their job.
Journalists have long been shielded from these sort of government threats by the First Amendment of the Constitution, along with Justice Department policy to refrain from imposing pressure on them to disclose their sources or other work product. But now Trump and Bondi are exacerbating their bullying by rescinding a Biden administration policy that prohibited such oppressive conduct.
What follows are a couple of the most harrowing portions of the Bondi memo, wherein she advocates for "the use of subpoenas, court orders, and search warrants to compel production of information and testimony by and relating to members of the news media." As reported by Ken Dilanian, NBC News justice and intelligence correspondent...
"I have concluded that it is necessary to rescind Merrick Garland's policies precluding the Department of Justice from seeking records and compelling testimony from members of the news media in order to identify and punish the source of improper leaks."
Translation: Bondi is permitting Trump's Justice Department to demand that journalists give up their confidential sources, including personal communications (texts, phone records, emails, etc.), under threat of subpoena, incarceration, and criminal prosecution if they refuse to comply. That is flagrantly unconstitutional. What's more, it would hamper the ability of reporters to gather information from government sources who would be too afraid to talk if they knew the reporters could be coerced into revealing their identity. And leaks are not "improper" unless they include classified data. The memo continued...
"This Justice Department will not tolerate unauthorized disclosures that undermine President Trump's policies, victimize government agencies, and cause harm to the American people. 'Where a Government employee improperly discloses sensitive information for the purposes of personal enrichment and undermining our foreign policy, national security, and Government effectiveness— all ultimately designed to sow chaos and distrust in Government- this conduct could properly be characterized as treasonous.'"
Translation: Bondi is improperly assuming the role of policing the media's disclosures of presidential activities. That is not remotely within the jurisdiction of the Justice Department. And it is especially improper if the intent is to avoid what it regards as "undermining" the president's policies. The public has a right to know what the president is up to, whether the president or the Justice Department likes it or not.
Even worse, Bondi is overtly threatening journalists with the capitol crime of treason. She is actually advocating for the execution of a reporter who might tell the truth about some malfeasance by the president. Which the public also has a right to know about.

Es ist die weiße Hysterie, das gleiche Phänomen, das den Süden erfasste und zum (amerikanischen) Bürgerkrieg führte, das den Aufstieg von Donald Trump befeuert hat.
Beim Phänomen Trump und dem Aufschwung des Rechtsextremismus in Amerika ging es nie wirklich um wirtschaftliche Ängste, wie so viele Experten behaupten. Es stimmt, dass viele Wechselwähler, darunter auch einige Minderheiten, Trump unterstützten, weil sie fälschlicherweise glaubten, dass er gut für die Wirtschaft sei. Aber für Trumps MAGA-Basis ging es schon immer um Ethnie und Rassismus.
Die Tatsache, dass MAGA-Wähler nicht wirtschaftlich motiviert sind, wurde deutlich, als Trump die Börse in den Keller stürzte und er mit seinen Zöllen eine globale Finanzkrise heraufbeschwor. Trumps Wähler, die sich noch unter der Regierung Biden lautstark über die Inflation beklagt hatten, sagen nun, dass ihnen die höheren Preise und die durch Trumps Zölle ausgelöste Finanzpanik egal seien.
Statt von wirtschaftlicher Angst wird MAGA von einer demografischen Paranoia motiviert, wie sie in den Jahren vor dem Bürgerkrieg in den Südstaaten grassierte. Der Süden der Zeit vor dem Bürgerkrieg fürchtete sich vor der Zukunft: Die Expansion der USA nach Westen würde zur Gründung so vieler freier Staaten führen, dass der Süden schließlich im Kongress zahlenmäßig unterlegen sein und seine Macht zur Verteidigung der Sklaverei verlieren würde. Im Bürgerkrieg ging es um die Zukunft.
Heute fürchtet die MAGA ebenfalls die Zukunft: Sie fürchtet, dass Amerika bald so vielfältig sein wird, dass die Weißen ihre Macht über Politik und Gesellschaft verlieren werden.
Hier ist die Ziffer, die MAGA am meisten aufregt: Im Jahr 2025 sind nur noch etwa 47 Prozent der amerikanischen Kinder unter fünf Jahren weiß.
Diese Statistik allein erklärt die MAGA-Hysterie - und einen Großteil von Trumps Programm. Sie erklärt seine drakonische Anti-Einwanderungs- und Abschiebungspolitik und seine Versuche, das Geburtsrecht auf amerikanische Staatsbürgerschaft abzuschaffen. Sie erklärt auch die Anti-Abtreibungskampagne und die rechtsgerichtete natalistische Bewegung, die beide einen verzweifelten Versuch darstellen, den weißen Bevölkerungsanteil zu steigern.
Der Begriff „weiß“ hat sich in Amerika im Laufe der Jahrhunderte und vor allem in den letzten Jahrzehnten geändert. Ursprünglich betrachteten sich nur die Briten als weiß. Später, nach der historischen irischen Hungersnot in den 1840ern, wurden auch irische Flüchtlinge widerwillig in die Kategorie „weiß“ aufgenommen. Später wurden Skandinavier und Deutsche ungefreut als Weiße akzeptiert. Osteuropäer und Juden wurden danach integriert Diejenigen, die bereits weiß geworden waren, wehrten sich lange Zeit dagegen, „Dagos“ - also Italiener, Spanier, Portugiesen, Griechen und einige Latinos - als neue Weiße zu akzeptieren. Danach sogar Armenier und Libanesen, weil christlich. Doch jetzt sind die Weißen unter dem Druck der immer stärker werdenden Bevölkerungsgruppen aus Lateinamerika, Asien und dem Nahen Osten häufig sogar bereit, Schwarze von echter amerikanischer Abstammung gegenüber „farbigen“ Einwanderern zu bevorzugen. Die „Weißen“ Amerikas sind also im Laufe der Zeit ziemlich bunt geworden. Was sich seit Jamestown jedoch nicht geändert hat, ist die Ablehnung von allem, was nicht "weiß" ist. Man mag darüber spekulieren, inwieweit die Präsidentschaft des "Farbigen" Barack Obama den Aufstieg Trumps begünstigt hat und ob die Hautfarbe von Kamala Harris ihrem Gegner Trump Wähler zugetrieben hat.

Older Americans, white Americans and those with lower levels of education are likelier to back Trump, with younger voters, highly educated voters and nonwhite voters likelier to disapprove of his job (with Black voters more negative than Hispanic ones).
Es ist zu erwarten, dass sich Präsident Trump nach der kraftvollen und unkonventionellen Umsetzung des Projekts 2025 der Heritage Foundation (die ständig von Richtern behindert wird, die er verdächtigt, Demokraten zu sein) der zweiten großen Aufgabe zuwenden wird (die er erfolgreich lösen wird, wie er bereits angedeutet hat): die Sicherung einer dritten Amtszeit bis 2032. So oder so wäre es sinnvoll, wenn der Anteil der „Weißen“ an der Wählerschaft entgegen dem derzeitigen Trend wachsen würde. Das ist nicht so unmöglich, wie man bei einem Blick auf die Bevölkerungsstatistik meinen könnte: Es gibt einen Faktor, der sich den Statistiken entzieht: die Bleichung.
Die Bleichung bedeutet, dass Menschen (Wähler), die bisher als „nicht-weiß“ oder „farbig“ galten, die Kategorie wechseln: nicht offiziell, aber innerlich, in ihrem Herzen. Latinos, Araber, Perser, Inder - vor allem Mischlinge aller Art, die sich in ihrem innigen Wunsch, zur amerikanischen Oberschicht zu gehören, bescheinigen, dass sie eigentlich weiß seien (auch wenn ein Blick in den Spiegel etwas anderes vermuten lässt).
Beispiel: Eine Freundin des Autors, die aus der Dominikanischen Republik kommt, sagt, sie stamme von einem Offizier der kleinen Armee von Christoph Kolumbus ab. Sie ist also weiß wie Schnee, alter Kolonialadel. Nun, ja!
Die langsam fortschreitende "Aufhellung" der amerikanischen Bevölkerung kommt Trump zugute. Man kann sich fragen, ob fortgesetzte MAGA-Hysterie die Aufhellung vorantreiben und viele neue „weiße“ Wähler schaffen wird.
White women voted for Trump again. They consistently vote for white supremacy to continue in this country. No matter what.
A coup attempt was not enough.
Roe v Wade was not enough.
Fascism was not enough.
Climate change was not enough.
Covid deaths were not enough.
Death around the world, because of this President's gleeful sadism, was not enough.
Children and families separated and kept in cages, was not enough.
And on and on and on.
White women chose to knowingly overlook all of these things to vote for a fascist, racist, rapist, a "dictator on day one" a convicted felon, misogynist, bigot, sadist, pathological liar, climate change denier, transphobe, and on and on and on. There is no bottom to his cruelty and depravity.
My sister voted for him too. I found out a few days after Jan. 6. She was one hundred percent behind this white supremacist. This was out of the blue. She was a Democrat, as was my mom and dad and me, of course. She is also a lesbian. Yeah, it was quite a horrifying shock. I found out she is a Q supporter, hated "brown people" and had purchased a gun to "protect" herself. So I told her I couldn't have her in my life anymore, and I hung up the phone. I have not had contact with her since. I don't want to, I CAN'T, this is my personal FAFO )(fuck off and find out,.--ed) for a white woman who voted for Trump.
I think it is long past time for white women who chose to vote for trump and other fascist Republicans, to have FAFO for their support of white supremacy. White women have supported racism and bigotry and the dehumanization of everyone who is not deemed "white" in this country, since they were able to vote. (And before that, as well) Somehow, these women who always vote against other women, other children, their own daughters, sisters, mothers, grandmothers, wives, friends, and strangers, get overlooked in the conversation about people who voted for Trump.

In den letzten Jahren, insbesondere aufgrund der Covid 19-Pandemie, haben immer mehr junge Menschen Angst davor, in finanzielle Schwierigkeiten zu geraten.
Zwar betrifft diese Phobie alle Altersgruppen, doch sind junge Menschen stärker gefährdet und eher von ihr betroffen. Es handelt sich um eine Angst, die bereits im Teenageralter auftreten kann und die immer häufiger in Bildungseinrichtungen anzutreffen ist. Bei den am härtesten Betroffenen kann diese Phobie sogar Selbstmordgedanken auslösen.
Ursachen und Symptome der Peniaphobie Während die Zeit nach der Covid-19-Pandemie und die verschiedenen Krisen, die die Weltwirtschaft treffen können, zwangsläufig Auswirkungen auf die Denkwelt der Jugendlichen haben, spielt ein anderer Akteur eine wichtige Rolle in der Explosion dieser Phobie: die sozialen Netzwerke:
Sandstrände, endlose Hochhäuser, riesige Swimmingpools, dicke Autos und Privatjets... Viele berühmte Influencer leben das Leben reicher Bohemiens, ohne sich darüber im Klaren zu sein, welche Auswirkungen ihre Veröffentlichungen auf die jüngere Generation haben werden. Sie können sich unerreichbare Lebensformen gestalten, die dazu führen, dass Menschen auf der ganzen Welt Versagensangst empfinden.
Obwohl diese Phobie alle Altersgruppen betrifft, sind Jugendliche stärker gefährdet und eher Opfer dieser Angst. Es handelt sich um eine Angst, die bereits im Teenageralter auftreten kann und die immer häufiger in Schulen anzutreffen ist. Vice President JD Vance was at the Vatican on Saturday to meet with Pope Francis.
It did not turn out well.
There was supposed to be an official meeting. But the pope skipped it, sending his deputy Cardinal Pietro Parolin instead.
Now, the pope has been ill with pneumonia lately. He’s 88 years old. But he has resumed his duties and was well enough to meet with King Charles and Queen Camilla a week ago.
The pope instead met privately with Vance, who is a fairly recent convert to Catholicism, and corrected him on his theology.
The pontiff has also specifically confronted Vance, the highest-ranking Catholic in the U.S. government, having converted in 2019.
Without mentioning the VP by name, the Pope corrected a Catholic concept Vance had invoked to defend the administration’s deportations, ordo amoris (order of love). In a February letter, Francis pointedly explained, “Christian love is not a concentric expansion of interests that little by little extend to other persons and groups.”
Pope Francis has not held back in his opinion of the Trump regime’s policies.
“There was an exchange of opinions on the international situation,” the Vatican’s statement on Saturday’s meeting read, “especially regarding countries affected by war, political tensions and difficult humanitarian situations, with particular attention to migrants, refugees, and prisoners.”
Why Vance went to the Vatican without an assurance of a public meeting with the pope is puzzling given the animosity that has already bubbled to the surface.
No photo op. No public blessing. Just a cold shoulder—and a firm reminder from the Vatican about who the Catholic Church stands with.
